Dr. Castro received his BA at the College of the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Medellin, Colombia, and then went to the same Pontifical Bolivarian University where he earned his doctorate in medicine. The residence, and cardiovascular training in anesthesiology at the University was made by the CES UNIVERSITY (www.ces.edu.co), which was the first specialist in Colombia with a degree in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Anesthesia. Received training in Intraoperative Transesophageal Echocardiography in the Department of Anesthesiology, Yale University School of Medicine / Yale New Haven Hospital. USA. From 1999 to 2002, he returned to Medellin where he served as Clinic Intensivist Medellin. From 2002 to 2005, Dr. Castro served as Director of Cardiovascular Anesthesia Department St. Sophia Hospital in Manizales, Colombia. In two of those three years, Dr. Castro was University Professor Department of Anesthesiology, The University of Caldas. His research career includes 30 publications and 8 books involvement in the area and has served as visiting professor at 20 times. Dr. Castro return to Medellin in 2005 and became the Director of Cardiovascular Anesthesia at Clinic Medellin, and its path was chosen as program coordinator for the specialization of Cardiovascular Anesthesia, of CES University so far. In addition, the Colombian Society of Anesthesiology SCARE named him coordinator of Cardiac Anesthesia committee in recognition of his academic career. By continuing interest in Intraoperative Echocardiography Dr. Castro was invited to coordinate the Transesophageal Intraoperative Echocardiography Committee of the InterAmerican Society of Echocardiography ECOSIAC. Dr. Castro arrives to St. Vincent Foundation in 2011, where he currently holds the title of Coordinator of Cardiovascular Anesthesia and is a valuable member of the Division of Cardiovascular Specialist Centre till 2018 to 2020.
