I am a biologist interested in applying principles derived from optimization theory to analyze how the fauna is affected by various factors. I consider that the integrated study of ecological and physiological parameters will help us understand better the interactions between animals, between them and the resources they exploit, with their predators, and the ecological and evolutionary implications of such interactions. I did my first-degree thesis in biology on mammals in an Andean forest in Manizales, Cordillera Central de Colombia, and compared their composition, species richness and abundance in native forest and alder (Alnus acuminata) plantations. During my master-Ph.D. thesis I investigated the effects of ethanol in food on the foraging behaviors of the Egyptian fruit bat , Rousettus aegyptiacus. Currently I am focused on understanding better how human activities affect biodiversity, particularly in urban and suburban environments. I continue using mammals as animal models, but I am also asking questions on the challenges for other vertebrates associated with the modifications that humans make the environment.
