Main professor and head of the Pharmacology Unit of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences of the Universidad del Rosario (UR). Researcher at the Center for Research in Genetics and Genomics (CIGGUR), GENIUROS research group. Member of the Research Ethics Committee of the UR, Observatory of Self-medication Behavior (OCAM) of the UR, of the Colombian Association of Pharmacovigilance (ACF), of the Editorial Committee of the journal BMJ Case Reports, of the British Pharmacological Society, of the International Society of Pharmacovigilance (ISoP) and the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP). As a member of the ACF and ISoP, he actively participates in different collaborative projects on pharmacovigilance, and has been invited on several occasions to share his academic and research experience as an international lecturer.He has been awarded the prize for the best research work at the IV and V CIMED Research Meeting of the Hospital Universitario Mayor in 2019 and 2020. In 2019, he was awarded for the second time with the ''Orden de Calatrava'' for labor merit for the rector of the UR. He has also been recognized as Distinguished Professor of the UR (2012) and Honorary Peer Tutor (2010) of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences of the UR.He is considered an opinion leader on pharmacogenetics and pain medicine, and in particular on the effect of B vitamins for pain management and neuropathy. His arduous research on this subject, in collaboration with the NeURos research group at the UR, has generated different articles in international indexed journals with a high impact factor, and has allowed him to represent the Universidad del Rosario as a guest speaker at numerous scientific events in Asia, Europe and Latin America. Likewise, he is considered an expert in pharmacoepidemiology, and for that reason, he was interviewed by the journal Nature in October 2020 regarding the impacts of self-medication on clinical research with different drugs for the COVID-19 pandemic. Areas of interest: pharmacovigilance, pharmacoepidemiology, self-medication, clinical studies, pain medicine and pharmacogenetics.
